Dorine Latenstein

When I first came across photographs of Dorine Latenstein’s work I thought they had been digitally enhanced to create pictures of such great beauty. On her site, however, I read that she doesn’t use studio or computer techniques.

That, for me, gave an additional dimension to her work, because she could reflect the extreme beauty of nature in such a realistic manner.

But there is something else that speaks to me in her work, as I find it to be the perfect embodiment of the long-standing law of life that we in the Netherlands refer to as ‘Opgaan, blinken en verzinken’ (which could roughly be translated as ‘rise up, blink, and sink’). This idiom implies that everything born, in any form, it may be a person, an organization, or a flower, is subject to the law of ‘opgaan, blinken en verzinken’. If you have a close look at any of Dorine’s pieces you can see she knows how to poignantly capture this ancient law of life.

Her work is on display at Kunstgroep Wassenaar’s exhibit from today, May 2nd 2015 and up until May 31st 2015. Otherwise, her work can be viewed on her own website.
